Robbery at Money Exchange Office in Douala’s Akwa Community Leaves Several Injured

Douala, Cameroon – A violent robbery occurred today in the bustling Akwa community of Douala, at a money exchange office, leaving several individuals injured and the money exchange agency losing over 200 million CFA francs. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, and authorities are investigating the matter.

According to eyewitnesses, a group of armed assailants stormed the money exchange office during busy hours, demanding cash and valuables from both customers and staff. The attackers, who were heavily armed, caused chaos in the office, injuring several people in the process. Many of the injured individuals were rushed to nearby hospitals, with some sustaining serious injuries, although the extent of the damage is still being assessed.

One of the clients at the money exchange agency was killed and 3 wounded. some bystanders at the scene also seriously wounded and have been taken to the hospital. One of the victims, A well-known local businessman, reported being amongst the victims, who had been conducting business at the exchange office, was reportedly left shaken and seriously wounded. He is currently hospitalized and police officers have launched an investigation into the robbery. Witnesses described the experience as “terrifying,” adding that the assailants acted quickly and ruthlessly.

The robbery, which took place in broad daylight, has raised concerns about the rising level of criminal activity in Douala’s business districts. Residents of the Akwa community expressed shock and fear, with some questioning the effectiveness of local law enforcement in preventing such violent incidents.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the robbery and are appealing for witnesses to come forward with any information that could assist in identifying the perpetrators. The police have also assured the public that they are intensifying patrols in the area to ensure the safety of citizens and businesses alike. Talking to one of our reporters on ground, the Chief inspector of police has reiterated that every body have have their ID cards at hand,  Any body stopped and searched without an ID card will immediately be apprehended.

This incident marks the latest in a series of robberies targeting businesses in Douala, prompting calls for improved security measures to protect residents and prevent further attacks.

The community remains on edge as the investigation continues, with many hoping that the culprits will soon be brought to justice.
